Marco Silva now ‘dreaming’ of signing Arsenal’s Cedric Soares for Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva is reportedly driving the west London side’s bid to sign Arsenal defender Cedric Soares, with the Premier League club currently leading the race for the right-back.

According to Foot Mercato, the Portuguese manager is ‘dreaming’ of reuniting with Cedric in January, with Silva managing the fullback during their time together at Sporting Lisbon before the duo both eventually arrived in the Premier League.

As per the report, Fulham are the leading side in the race to sign Cedric despite some strong competition from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, with the Arsenal player himself keen to remain in London as well as to work with a familiar face in Silva.

With Cedric hardly playing for Arsenal this season, a strong enough bid from Fulham could be enough to see the Portuguese international leave north London for Craven Cottage, with Mikel Arteta himself likely to sanction a deal for the 31-year-old right-back.

This campaign has seen Ben White assert himself as Arsenal’s starting right-sided fullback, and with Takehiro Tomiyasu solid backup for the England international, it makes sense why Cedric would be allowed to leave in January, with Fulham an ideal landing spot for the defender.

Indeed, the Cottagers have been great this season following their promotion back to the Premier League from the Championship, with Silva’s side sat in ninth despite many people tipping the west London side to drop back out of the top-flight, and signing Cedric would greatly improve that backline.

Cedric’s time at Arsenal is clearly coming to an end, luckily for the defender, though, Fulham proposes a good next step for the veteran fullback, who could flourish under his former manager Silva in the second half of the season.

With the Cottagers also likely to survive relegation, the Portuguese star could stake a claim to have a long-term role in the squad with Silva unlikely to leave any time soon, with Cedric having the quality to flourish in west London with Fulham.
