Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin is yet to really impress.

Everton boss Marco Silva has told the Liverpool Echo that he thinks new signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin needs to think faster in the Premier League.

The Toffees picked up their first win of the new season on Saturday, beating Watford 1-0 at Goodison Park thanks to Bernard’s winner.

It wasn’t exactly vintage Everton, but another home clean sheet and three points on the board will have been more than enough to satisfy many.

One aspect that didn’t exactly impress some though was the performance of new signing Gbamin, who was starting his first game for Everton.

The Ivorian started alongside Andre Gomes against Watford, but showed some deficiencies in his game right now, as was the case against Crystal Palace too.

Gbamin has been signed as Idrissa Gueye’s replacement, but has yet to really shine, admittedly in limited playing time so far, since his £25million move from Mainz (BBC).

Boss Silva has admitted that Gbamin has some improving to do, and has now pinpointed exactly what it is that he needs to rectify.

Silva feels that Gbamin needs to ‘think faster’ to perform well in the Premier League, feeling that he needs to adapt to the pace of English football – and that will hopefully come with more game time.

“J-P (Gbamin) is 23-year-old and he had to adapt fast to the pace, the intensity, he has to think faster in the Premier League to perform better every single match,” said Silva.
