Everton midfielder Tom Davies has been occasionally criticised by supporters at Goodison Park of late.

Everton boss Marco Silva surely sent out a message about how highly he rates Tom Davies by handing the youngster the captain’s armband last night.

Everton named a weakened line-up against Rotherham United yesterday in the Carabao Cup, and Davies led his team out.

Silva has chosen to rotate that captain’s armband around the team so far, but giving it to Davies surely shows how highly he rates the prospect.

Davies has come in for some criticism at Goodison Park recently, with his form over last season dipping.

But the combative midfielder was in fine form for the Toffees last night, and his position in the first-team looks set in stone now.

Handing Davies the armband was a signal of just how impressed Silva must have been by the England youth international.

And it could be that Davies is given plenty of chances by Silva over the course of the season.
