Everton boss Marco Silva has given Tom Davies just 11 minutes game time so far this season.
Everton academy graduate Davies played in a deep role for England under-21’s in the week, and was outstanding.
His performance led to the Three Lions under 21 boss Aidy Bothroyd suggesting that Davies should play in defensive midfield for Everton.
“If they gave him a holding role I think he’d be really good at that,” Bothroyd said to the Liverpool Echo.
However, Silva has disagreed with those comments at his latest press conference.
The Toffees manager seems to think Davies has a future playing in a more advanced role.
And he said: “It’s important to see him playing, that’s the main thing for me. If you ask me if I’m seeing Tom like my holding midfielder, I’m not.
“Our plans are clear with him, it’s important for him to play for us. Competition will be really tough, not just for him but for the others. He’s really working hard, giving his best every day and it’s what I want from him.”
Silva’s words should be a boost to Davies, as it proves that he remains in Everton’s plans.
Davies has played just 11 minutes for the Toffees so far this campaign, with fears around his game time rising.
It now remains to be seen whether Davies will be included in Everton’s squad this weekend, when they take on Bournemouth.
