Everton fell to another defeat to Southampton at the weekend, as Marco Silva’s side struggled.

Everton were beaten 2-1 at St. Mary’s at the weekend, as Silva’s side fell to another disappointing defeat.
Everton did not perform up to expectations, and Gomes’ performance was a big disappointment.
The Portuguese midfielder has been one of Everton’s best players this term, but he was withdrawn just after the hour mark on the south coast.
And Silva was not in the mood for protecting Gomes after the match, as he criticised the Everton man’s display.
“It was a difficult game for Andre, not just for him but the whole team,” Silva said.
“For sure he didn’t like it. He’s unhappy in this moment in his performance but it’s something that happened not just with him but with the other players.

“He’s already done very, very good things for us but he didn’t perform and we didn’t see the normal Andre Gomes against Southampton – but everything will change.
“It’s not a matter of whether he is tired or not. We had a normal week to prepare for the match and I didn’t see Andre tired or anything like that, it is not an excuse for us.”
Everton are still thought to be working on a permanent deal for Gomes, who has increased his reputation during his time at Goodison Park so far.
Everton currently only have him on loan from Barcelona, but they want to make his stay a longer-term one.
The Toffees’ disappointing form of late has seen them drop down into 11th place in the Premier League table.
