Everton winger Richarlison has started this season on the right-hand side.

Everton manager Marco Silva

Marco Silva has admitted to the Liverpool Echo that he was expecting Richarlison to be a left-winger for Everton when he first arrived.

Richarlison started out on the left side for Everton, but was moved up-front last term, and eventually on to the right-hand side.

The Brazilian international has now kept his position down the right flank for the Toffees.

And Silva admits that Richarlison is now playing in a position he wasn’t originally intending.

“I was thinking more about him on the left or the right – more on the left if I am honest with you – but we adapted him on the right and he did really well and the other winger did well also,” Silva said.

“When he was a striker he scored important goals for us but when we decided to put him as a striker in that period it was possible Dominic and Cenk were not at their best and so I am here to find different solutions but in this moment I am looking at him more as a winger.”

Bernard has come in and made Everton’s left hand side his own, after scoring his first goal of the season against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Bernard’s partnership with Lucas Digne has been widely praised, and the diminutive playmaker looks set to start again on Friday evening against Aston Villa.

Richarlison, meanwhile, hasn’t quite found his top form so far this season.

Richarlison is not yet off the mark, but should start for Everton in Silva’s side’s next match.
