Liverpool beat Everton 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Everton lost 1-0 to bitter rivals Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, and much has been made of the winning goal so very late in the day.
The Toffees were excellent at Anfield and looked set to at least claim a point, with the game petering out into a 0-0 draw after Everton missed some great openings.
However, Everton left empty-handed as Virgil van Dijk’s wild swing of the ball in the 96th minute looped up into the air, and with Jordan Pickford unable to do anything but fumble the ball onto his own cross bar, leaving Divock Origi to head home from close range.
Everton simply couldn’t believe how the game ended, especially with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sprinting onto the pitch to celebrate with Reds goalkeeper Alisson.
Klopp’s celebration is something very rarely seen, and the German claimed that he made sure he apologised to Everton boss Marco Silva in order to not come across disrespectful.
Everything is fine then, right? Well, perhaps not.
Silva has been asked about Klopp’s apology, and has told the Liverpool Echo that the German’s comments were not true as he didn’t apologise at all for his actions, which have landed him in hot water with the FA.
Silva claims that he didn’t see Klopp’s celebration anyway, so he doesn’t even know if Klopp was being disrespectful or not, but remains adamant that Klopp did not apologise and praise Silva’s work as he so claims.
“No, he didn’t apologise to me,” said Silva. “All of your colleagues asked me about this situation but, to be honest, I didn’t see what happened. I didn’t see it. I don’t know what he did and the way he did it.
“I think he didn’t expect it, it was a lucky day for him this afternoon. It’s football. I cannot tell you if it was any disrespect because I didn’t see it. You are asking me but maybe when I see that moment I can speak more about that situation,” he added.
