Everton defender Phil Jagielka has just months remaining on his current deal at Goodison Park.

Everton boss Marco Silva has told the Daily Mirror that he is planning contract talks with Phil Jagielka in the near future.

Both Leighton Baines and Jagielka face the prospect of their contracts at Everton expiring at the end of the season, and they have not penned new terms.

However, Silva has suggested that the veteran pair may well be handed extensions at Goodison Park, if they want to stay.

He said: “I already spoke with Leighton, Jags I will do in the next few days or weeks. Leighton knows what is my idea already, the idea of the club also and it is up to us to talk in the next few days and weeks to speak about this situation.”

The news should please Jagielka, who has been keen to sort his future out for some time.

The Everton centre-back spoke only recently about how Silva had disappointed him by not telling him whether he would be offered a new contract or not.

“I’d would like to have (heard) some concrete stuff yesterday but, at same extent, it’s not playing on my mind too much, it’s case of just getting on with things and hopefully knowing sooner rather than later,” the England international, who is on £50,000-a-week (Daily Star), said to the Liverpool Echo two weeks ago.

Whether Jagielka or Baines will sign their new contracts at Everton remains to be seen.

The defensive duo have not played regularly at the Toffees this season, and it seems unlikely that will change next term.
