Former Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has advised Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus to shun Manchester City interest and join Real Madrid.
Marco Reus could be on the move in January, or it might be next summer before he heads for the exits at Borussia Dortmund.
It is, however, expected to be only a matter of time before he takes on a new challenge, with the Germany international ready to take a domestic step up in class.
Wherever he ends up, he will be expected to shine and prove himself deserving of a standing among the world’s best players.
It is that ability which has seen him linked with leading clubs across Europe, with the revelation that he has a release clause of just £19.8 million firing him to the top of Premier League, La Liga and Bundesliga wanted lists.
Bayern Munich are keen to keep him in his homeland, Manchester City would welcome the opportunity to bring him to England, while Real Madrid consider him to be another worthy ‘Galactico’ in their galaxy of stars.
Former Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes believes Reus should be pushing for a move to the latter, but acknowledges that he is likely to have plenty of enticing options to consider.
He told Sky 90: “I would recommend going to Madrid.
“Bayern have four or five world class players up front. Where would Reus play? If he really has that clause of €25m, all the big European teams should go for him.”
Reus has spent the last three years with Dortmund, helping them to the Champions League final in 2012/13.
He missed out on World Cup glory with his country over the summer after suffering an unfortunate injury, but he will hope to right those wrongs in the not too distant future.
For now, though, it is his club career which is taking centre stage, with a frantic scramble for his signature set to be sparked once a first formal offer is tabled.
