Marco Reus’ comments about Tottenham Hotspur back in 2016 now make interesting reading

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with an ambitious move for the Borussia Dortmund attacker today.

According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are after Marco Reus, but they may have to change his mind, if they are to get him to join.

Reus was part of the Dortmund side which took on Spurs in the Europa League back in 2016, and he was open with his thoughts on Mauricio Pochettino’s side after the contest.

Dortmund won the contest 3-0, with Reus scoring twice, against a mixed strength Tottenham line-up.

Spurs were competing for the Premier League title with Leicester City at the time, and Pochettino decided to rest key players for the fixture.

However, Reus insisted after the game that Dortmund would have beaten Spurs, even if they had put their full strength side out.

“I do believe that they took the game seriously. But we are currently in such good form that we would still have beaten their best team,” he said to the London Evening Standard.

“I think Tottenham are giving priority to winning the Premier League and you can’t blame them.”

Tottenham may now need to convince Reus that they have improved over the past 18 months, if they are to convince him to move.

The good news for Tottenham is that they took on Dortmund twice this season’s Champions League, and beat them on both occasions.

Spurs beat Reus’ side 3-1 at Wembley, before winning 2-1 in Germany.

And that may just suggest to Reus that moving to Spurs would be a step forward for his career.
