Liverpool ended the transfer window with two new defensive signings, bolstering Jurgen Klopp’s options at the back.

The Reds pounced to sign Ben Davies from Preston North End before taking Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were linked with a host of other options in that area of the pitch, such as Duje Caleta-Car and Edmond Tapsoba.

Another name mentioned was Lyon’s Marcelo, with L’Equipe reporting that he rejected Liverpool because they only offered him a six-month deal.

The Brazilian is out of contract at Lyon this summer, but seemingly decided that he wanted more of a commitment from any new club.

The 33-year-old is a veteran defender with vast experience across Europe, turning out for Wisla Krakow, PSV Eindhoven, Hannover, Besiktas and Lyon, but allegedly felt this move to Anfield wasn’t for him.

Marcelo has now spoken to Canal Plus, stating that his agent did indeed hold talks over a move to Liverpool, but feels good with Lyon.

He seemingly wants to stay in Lyon for some time yet, but Liverpool have likely moved on now anyway having signed Davies and Kabak.

“I hope we will find a solution soon! I feel good here, I feel that I can give more to Lyon,” said Marcelo. “Over time, I hope that we will find a good solution, Liverpool? My agent spoke with them, but I feel good here. My dream is to win the championship with Lyon,” he added.
