Liam Cooper looks like being a regular starter for Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa.

Marcelo Bielsa has put himself under pressure by deciding to go with Liam Cooper as a starting centre-back for Leeds United next season.

The Yorkshire Evening Post suggest that Leeds want Cooper to start for them next season, which will be a controversial move.

Cooper has plenty of detractors at Elland Road, and it was widely expected that Bielsa would target a centre-back this summer.

However, the Argentine boss seems to have decided that bringing in a starting centre-back isn’t crucial.

Leeds want to sign Matthew Pennington, but he will only be snapped up as back-up to Bielsa’s other options in the position.

It seems that Pontus Jansson, Cooper and Kalvin Phillips will begin the season as Leeds back-three.

It is a risky move from Bielsa, as if things start to go wrong at the back, then Cooper will not be afforded much sympathy.

Cooper often became a scapegoat for Leeds last term, with doubts forming over his ability to play in a promotion winning Championship side.

And if Leeds fail to look solid at the back, then Bielsa’s decision not to bring in a centre-back instead of Cooper will come in for fierce criticism.
