Leeds United confirmed the hire of Marcelo Bielsa earlier today, a major coup for the Whites.

Bielsa brings with him a big contact book and the Whites can target better players thanks to the calibre of manager they have.

His top targets should include his former Marseille striker Andre Pierre Gignac.

Gignac is now playing in Mexico with Tigres, where he netted 18 goals in 38 games, following 49 goals in the previous two seasons for the club.

Now 32, his days at elite level European football are probably over, giving Leeds a shot of convincing him to join them in the second tier.

Bielsa managed him at Marseille with great success, with Gignac scoring 23 goals under him in his final season.

The Argentine raved about Bielsa, telling RMC Sport: “He is invincible, not because no one can beat him, but because he never surrenders, his mind assumes every situation that comes his way. His energy puts the interest of the team above all, and of himself.”

He even added: “He refuses the excuses and the justifications, because he knows it’s the only way to find the solution, in Marseille, we shared a season, and it made me a better coach.”

Gignac is a physical striker who is strong in the air, and he could certainly stand up to the rigours of Championship football.

If anybody stands a chance of convincing him to leave his happy situation in Mexico, it’s Bielsa.
