Leeds United hold a one-goal advantage against Derby County heading into their second leg clash at Elland Road.
Marcelo Bielsa has stated that Leeds United need to ‘increase’ their efficiency in the final third so they can score more goals ahead of their return leg tie against Derby County.
The Yorkshire club hold a one-goal lead heading into Wednesday’s Elland Road showdown where anything other than a defeat would book them a place in the play-off final.
By the time Leeds and Derby kickoff, they will already know who their potential opponents for the final will be because the winner of Aston Villa and West Brom will be decided on Tuesday night.
Nonetheless, ahead of Leeds’ clash against Derby, Bielsa provided a brilliant tactical analysis in where his team need to improve and how they need to do it.
“The goal of having possession of the ball is to create offensive situations and the goal of the offensive situations is to create a danger to the opponent,” said Bielsa, as quoted by Leeds Live. “At the end, the idea is to score a goal out of this danger created.
“We started many offensive actions very well. We arrived to the previous step pretty well and we have to increase the efficiency after these two steps we just mentioned. We have to score more goals and then increase the efficiency. The idea is that possession allows us bigger difference.”
During the regular season, Leeds would dominate the ball in the majority of the games they would play in, especially on home soil.
But there were many times where they would struggle to put the ball in the back of the net and the game stats would not reflect the scoreline.
At Pride Park, they were efficient in their work by scoring the only goal of the game and securing a valuable clean sheet heading into this return leg.
If Leeds stop Frank Lampard’s side from scoring at Elland Road then the supporters will be planning trips to the capital for the end of this month.
