Leeds United beat Derby County 4-1 on Saturday evening.
Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that he asked Jamie Shackleton to ‘add balance in midfield’ when brought on against Derby County.
The Whites continued their blistering start to the season with a 4-1 thumping of Derby County on Saturday afternoon, hot on the heels of their 3-1 win over Stoke City on the opening day of the season.
Mateusz Klich got the ball rolling for Leeds for the second game in a row, only for Tom Lawrence to smash home a superb free kick to level the score for the Rams.
Kemar Roofe’s superb angled header from an Ezgjan Alioski cross put Leeds back in front, and he added a sensational second, showing outstanding control and composure to beat a man and slam home Leeds’ third.
Alioski got himself on the scoresheet to seal the 4-1 win, heading home Pablo Hernandez’s cross to cap off what was a stunning performance at Pride Park from Bielsa’s side.
Leeds were also able to hand a debut to teenager Jamie Shackleton, as he came off the bench for Klich on 73 minutes to help the Whites see out the game.
The 18-year-old was handed his first Championship appearance, and Bielsa has told Leeds Live that he asked the youngster to bring balance to the side, as well as keep the Leeds side organised and win the ball back but not lose it – plenty of responsibility for the teenager.
“I told him to put some balance in the midfield sector,” said Bielsa. “And I told him to help the team keep organised. I told him to get the ball back and not to lose the ball when we had it,” he added.
