Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that he doesn’t expect Tyler Roberts back any time soon.
The Wales international hasn’t kicked a ball for United in any competition this season due to injury.
Roberts, a £4 million signing in January of 2018 [The Yorkshire Evening Post], had a brilliant second half of last season after Bielsa turned him into a number 10.
He and right-back Luke Ayling have missed Leeds’ barnstorming start to the campaign, with the Whites winning 13 points from a possible 15 in the Championship.
And Bielsa told The Yorkshire Evening Post that neither is ‘coming back soon’.
He said: “Tyler Roberts will probably be ready and in the team before Luke Ayling. I cannot confirm the date. We are talking about players who are not coming back soon.”
This isn’t detrimental to Leeds because they’re clearly surviving without them. Pablo Hernandez is flourishing in the role that Roberts made his own last year, while Stuart Dallas, who scored in the 3-0 win at Stoke this past weekend, is looking brilliant as right wing-back.
Going forward though, Bielsa will need the pair back. The Whites had a horrendous injury crisis for most of last season and although Ayling and Roberts aren’t needed at this moment in time, they’re still brilliant options to have.
