Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has raved about Kalvin Phillips, as quoted in Leeds Live.

Bielsa has outlined the England international midfielder’s attributes and has outlined how the 25-year-old can get even better.

The Argentine told Leeds Live: “What distinguishes Kalvin from the rest is the capacity to play the ball. In order to obtain the ball and distribute it, there’s two paths: one is to recover the ball and after recovering it, managing the ball.

“The second path is to be able to move into positions where he can receive the ball and be able to distribute it. The more he recovers the ball and the more he moves to become free, the more he will be able to shine.”

Premier League success

Philips was one of the best defensive midfielders in the Championship for the past two seasons and was a key figure in Leeds winning automatic promotion to the Premier League for the 2020-21 campaign.

Some may have had doubts on whether the 25-year-old would be able to adjust to life in the Premier League, and the midfielder has proved his doubters wrong.

Phillips has earned four caps for England already, and if he continues to play well, then there is a very good chance that he will be part of the Three Lions’ squad for the European Championship in the summer of 2021.

According to WhoScored, Phillips has played seven times in the Premier League for Leeds so far this season, and for the Whites to have a successful campaign, he will have to be on top of his game throughout.
