Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has praised Kalvin Phillips for his performance against West Ham United on Monday evening, as quoted in Leeds Live.

Phillips returned to the Leeds starting lineup after recovering from injury, and his performance impressed Bielsa.

The West Yorkshire outfit failed to win at London Stadium, as West Ham won the Premier League game 2-0.

Leeds Live quotes Bielsa as saying about Phillips: “Very good. It’s very difficult to play the way Kalvin played today after being out for a month. He didn’t commit any errors in the general line. I saw him defend well and I didn’t see him make mistakes with the ball.

“Perhaps at the start of the game he was a decisive factor in that we played so well at the beginning. In the second half he gave balance to the team.

“I don’t have it clear yet that in that 30 minutes where we dominate if he was a factor in this or if that he declined, but the feeling I have is that he was one of the best players for us in the game.”

How did Kalvin Phillips play?

Phillips is a key figure in the current Leeds team and is one of the better midfielders in the Premier League.

There were occasions when it looked like the 25-year-old was a bit off-pace, but one must remember that this was his first game back from injury.

The England international could have done better from set-pieces, but he did protect the back-line as best as he could and tried to impose himself in the middle of the park.

According to WhoScored, Phillips took one shot which was not on target, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 90%, took 69 touches, attempted one dribble, made two tackles and two interceptions, and put in three crosses.
