Marcelo Bielsa has total confidence in his Leeds United team, going by what he said today.
Marcelo Bielsa has told a press conference via The Yorkshire Evening Post that many of his Leeds United players would’ve been good enough for his Athletic Bilbao and Marseille teams.
Bielsa’s side are very likely to win automatic promotion to the Premier League, with Leeds second in the Championship with 10 regular games to go.
The Whites will establish a five-point cushion in the top two on Tuesday night if they win at Reading and third-placed Sheffield United lose at home to Brentford.
United have arguably been the division’s most impressive side overall this season, with Bielsa winning a lot of praise for the high-energy pressing game that he has his players doing.
The renowned Argentine has transformed Leeds and although he doesn’t know how they would fare in England’s top flight, the former Bilbao and Marseille boss is certain that many of his current players would have been good enough for his previous sides.
He told a press conference via The Yorkshire Evening Post, when asked how the Elland Road side would do in the Premier League: “I am not ready to make this kind of comparisons now. I haven’t analysed it.
“I can tell you any player that plays for Leeds now they could play without any problem for the two European teams I coached for some time – Marseille and Athletic Bilbao.”
It’s very high praise from the 63-year-old, whose Bilbao side reached the final of the Europa League in 2012 after eliminating Manchester United en route, while Bielsa’s Marseille boasted an array of top-drawer players such as Dimitri Payet, Florian Thauvin and Michy Batshuayi.
