Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that he has been seriously impressed by Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson’s performances in recent matches.

Jansson had a slow start to the campaign, after missing much of pre-season, due to the World Cup.

However, the centre-back has seemingly broken into Bielsa’s starting line-up now.

Jansson has started Leeds’ last two matches, against Norwich City and Preston North End, and the Swedish centre-back has caught Bielsa’s eye.

“He was one of the two best players in the last two games,” the Argentine boss said. “He didn’t do the work we did in pre-season and so far he has played three games.

“In these three games he played at a level close to his potential.”

Jansson has been one of Leeds most integral players over the past two seasons, and he looks set to play a key role again this term.

Leeds have limited options at centre-back, and Jansson looks like the natural leader at the back.

There was actually speculation over Jansson’s future this summer, with FC Krasnodar keen to buy the defender, according to Expressen.

The Whites have made an impressive start to the new campaign, although they were beaten by Preston in their most recent outing.

Leeds are back in action tomorrow, when they take on Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough side at Elland Road.
