Leeds United earn a late point away at Millwall in the Championship.
Marcelo Bielsa heaped praise on centre-forward Tyler Roberts after he made his Leeds United league debut in the draw against Millwall on Saturday.
The Whites continued their positive start to the Championship season with a 1-1 away draw, which means they are one point clear at the top of the table.
Jed Wallace had put the hosts in front early in the second-half with his goal, but Leeds winger Jack Harrison netted a crucial equaliser in the 89th minute to preserve the unbeaten start.
A spate of injuries in attack for the Yorkshire giants meant that 19-year-old Roberts was given the starting role.
The centre-forward could be set for an extended opportunity in the first team due to injuries to Patrick Roberts and Kemar Roofe, but is still waiting for his first Leeds goal.
Bielsa believes that Roberts performed well against Millwall and got himself in the right positions.
“Some people value the strikers when they score a goal,” Bielsa said, as quoted by Leeds Live.
“But I prefer to value them taking into account the number of chances they have to score. I think he had three or four chances to score.
“And if he had scored one goal we would be all saying that he had done a wonderful performance. I think he did a correct performance, a good performance.”
Leeds now turn their attention to two home fixtures at Elland Road, with games against Preston and Birmingham in the next week.
Roberts is set to be in contention to start those games and the Wales international will be eager to chalk up his first goal for the club.
The teenager has been presented with a huge window of opportunity at senior level and is tasked with keeping up Leeds’ impressive goalscoring form so far this season.
