Leeds United beat Wigan Athletic 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that he thinks defender Ben White was better in his first two league games for the club than he was against Wigan Athletic.

The Whites travelled to the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and were hoping to continue their unbeaten start to the season in all competitions.

Their task was made easier as Wigan midfielder Joe Williams picked up a first half red card, and Patrick Bamford took advantage with a goal in either half.

That gave Leeds a 2-0 win, meaning they’ve taken seven points from a possible nine and sit top of the Championship table, with two away wins from two.

Leeds will be hoping to continue this form into the midweek clash with Brentford, especially with former defender Pontus Jansson returning to Elland Road in that fixture.

His replacement, White, has made a strong start to life with Leeds and produced another solid display against Wigan, with the Brighton and Hove Albion loanee earning fans quickly.

However, Bielsa offered a very honest verdict on his performance, suggesting that the summer signing was ‘good’, but his first two performances of the season were better.

Bielsa noted that White’s level of performance is more than enough, with a game against the impressive – and physically dominant – Kieffer Moore a great test for the youngster.

“He is realising in the team right now,” said Bielsa. “Today, he had a good performance, but in the first two performances he was better. Always, his level is more than enough,” he added.
