Leeds United beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Leeds United advanced into the second round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, as they beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 at Elland Road to continue their fine start under Marcelo Bielsa.
After hammering Derby County 4-1 on Saturday evening, Leeds were back at Elland Road on Tuesday night, hosting Phil Parkinson’s Bolton side with a much-changed line-up.
Summer signings Jamal Blackman, Lewis Baker, Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford were all handed their first starts for the Whites, and it was Bamford who opened the scoring with a fine left-footed finish.
Samu Saiz’s neat footwork and smart finish saw Leeds go 2-0 up, and whilst Erhun Oztumer pulled one back in the second half, Leeds saw out the game with a 2-1 victory.
Leeds will be pleased to keep the winning run going, and also given that Bamford has now opened his account for the club following his big-money move from Middlesbrough this summer.
Bamford was expected to be the leading frontman for the Whites, but Kemar Roofe’s fine form means that he has been forced to make do with a place on the bench until making his first start on Tuesday.

Bamford may have staked his claim with a goal, but manager Bielsa maybe wasn’t 100% sold on his performance, suggesting that his display decreased in quality the longer the game went on, but praised him for scoring and linking play up well.
“He scored a goal and this is always very important and he was always linking to the box, this is important too,” said Bielsa. “With development of the game his performance decreased a little bit,” he added.
