Leeds United are apparently about to sign Dan James from Manchester United, and one of the biggest problems with this signing is the fact that the Whites already have a lot of depth on the right-wing.
Indeed, Raphinha, Helder Costa and Crysencio Summerville all play in that role, so on face value, it’s hard to see where James really fits into all of this.
However, if you look back at Bielsa’s comments when Raphinha first signed, it seems as though the Argentine may have already outlined his plan for the Brazilian after James’ arrival.
What’s been said?
When Raphinha first joined, Bielsa was asked where he’ll fit into his side.
Predictably, the Argentine said he can play on either wing, but he also said that eventually, he’ll play in a central attacking midfield position.
“He’s an additional alternative to the right-wing position, left-wing position and eventually to the central, offensive midfield position. Fundamentally, he’s a winger who can play on the right or left-hand side,” Bielsa said.

The time is now
Bielsa said that Raphinha would eventually move centrally, and surely that time is now.
You don’t spend £25m on a player like James unless you’re planning on using him, and if he’s going to take up a spot on the right, Raphinha will have to move.
Dropping the Brazilian is out of the question. After all, he’s arguably the Whites’ best player, so a change in position may be needed.
Leeds have had a problem with that attacking midfield role for a little while now due to Rodrigo’s underperformance, but it seems as though they may now have a solution.
