Amid Leeds United’s 100th birthday celebrations, it was fitting that boyhood fan Kalvin Phillips scored their winning goal against Birmingham City on Saturday.

Marcelo Bielsa has expressed his annoyance at how Leeds United finished their 1-0 win over Birmingham City on Saturday at Elland Road.

The Whites boss stated that ‘all of us are uncomfortable’ as he was making reference to his team allowing their opponents to ‘control the ball’ after Kalvin Phillips had scored, and how they didn’t punish Pep Clotet’s side.

Whilst Leeds fans will be delighted with the three points, it could have been one of those games where their opponents could have walked away with a point when they should have put them to bed.

After the game, Bielsa shared the aspect of Leeds’ play that he was unhappy with, as he clearly wasn’t pleased that his side didn’t go on and well and truly finish the game.

“Not happy with how we finished the match,” Bielsa told Leeds Live. “It was what I said before. After we scored, we had the option to finish the match. After that, we gave them the ball. Even if we tried to play, we couldn’t achieve attacks.

“Little by little, the opponent started to control the ball and limit our chances. When you are in the last minute and, and the difference is just one goal, all of us are uncomfortable.”

In the end, three points is three points and it was a deserved victory for Leeds, who celebrated their 100th birthday in style and with their local boy Phillips securing the points.

That result has seen Leeds move into second-place, as they are two points behind leaders West Brom, who they can go above if they beat Preston on Tuesday night and if the Baggies end up losing to Barnsley on the same day.

The fixture list is beginning to pile up again, and if Bielsa’s side can prove their worth by getting wins on the board in these coming weeks then they may well be sitting loud and proud at the top of the table heading into a very tough festive period.
