After a rollercoaster of a first season under Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds United will push for promotion again in August, and just like always, it will be yet another drama-filled campaign.

Leeds United fans take their seats during the Sky Bet Championship Play-off Second Leg match between Leeds United and Derby County at Elland Road on May 15, 2019 in Leeds, England.

If the next 10 months are going to mirror Marcelo Bielsa’s first season at Leeds United then supporters may as well strap themselves in because, as always, it’s going to be a difficult but entertaining watch.

Those players who were at Leeds last season would have learnt a hell of a lot from Bielsa’s debut campaign. From understanding his training methods, dealing with his demanding tactics to playing under the highly-intense pressure cooker that is Elland Road.

There’s no doubt that Leeds are one of the favourites to earn promotion ahead of the new Championship campaign, and depending on how you are feeling as a Leeds fan, most will be looking forward to Bielsa unleashing a more fierce animal in their second push for promotion under the highly-rated Argentine.

But if the unthinkable happens again, and Leeds don’t earn promotion to the Premier League then Bielsa and owner Andreas Radrazziani have, at the least, built/are still building a young and vibrant squad for the future.

From anchorman Kalvin Phillips in the middle of the park to the ever-improving Kemar Roofe in the final third back to summer signing Helder Costa. Leeds have a squad for the future.

Last season, Tottenham loanee Jack Clarke burst onto the scene from the Yorkshire giants academy, and given Bielsa’s qualities as a coach, it wouldn’t be a surprise if another ‘Clarke’ makes a name for himself next season.

Bielsa is known to be this short-term manager, but whatever happens with him and Leeds 12 months from now, he has implemented something within the club that can be carried on forward in years to come.

From his ever-dangerous style of play to Yorkshire academy which he has made even stronger back to the thriving players whose games have gone to a whole new level. Leeds are on the up.

The dream for Leeds will no doubt be promotion to the promised land, but it is fair to say that the supporters haven’t been this excited and optimistic in a long while.
