Gaetano Berardi and Jamie Shackleton are close to returning for Leeds United, says head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Berardi, who is a very versatile defender and can operate as a right-back, left-back or centre-back, was expected to be out for another three weeks with a knee injury, as reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post.
As for Shackleton, the 18-year-old – who can play as a midfielder or as a wing-back – is on the sidelines at the moment due to an ankle injury.
The Yorkshire Evening Post has quoted Bielsa as saying that 30-year-old defender Berardi and teenager Shackleton are “close” to returning to action.
Positive update
Leeds have had injury issues so far this season, with strikers Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford both on the sidelines.
Attacking midfielder Pablo Hernandez is also out with a hamstring problem, and one suspects that Berardi and Shackleton’s imminent return to action will be a boost to the Whites.
Leeds are going strong in the Championship at the moment, but Bielsa cannot afford any more injuries.
