Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has told Sky Sports that Rodrigo will be out for weeks.

Bielsa has also said that Ian Poveda will be on the sidelines for weeks and not days as well.

Spain international Rodrigo, who can operate as a striker or as a winger, suffered a muscle strain against Leicester City last weekend.

Poveda, who can play as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, injured his ankle while in action for the Leeds Under-23 side.

Bielsa told Sky Sports: “It’s not a question of days, more of weeks. Rodrigo fell and his legs separated and caused an elongation more than usual and this caused the injury.

“I saw a picture of the position both of his feet ended up in and the difference between them was different to what we would expect.”

Bad news for Leeds United fans

Leeds have been adversely affected by injuries this season. Diego Llorente has not really made an impact since he joined in the summer of 2020, while Robin Koch is a long-term injury concern.

Rodrigo has been playing well for the Whites this season, and his absence will be a blow for the promoted Premier League club.

According to WhoScored, Rodrigo has made 12 starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for Leeds so far this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the process.

Leeds are having a wonderful season in the Premier League and could finish in the top 10.
