Leeds United are still yet to find a replacement for Jesse Marsch – so far, the likes of Marcelo Bielsa, Andoni Iraola and Arne Slot have been mentioned.
Most recently, Andrea Radrizzani bizarrely came close to hiring Alfred Schreuder, despite the fact the Dutchman was practically hounded out of Ajax in January following a disastrous stint in charge.
While it doesn’t seem as if Iraola, Slot or Bielsa will be taking over from Marsch this season, the latter has already made a proposal which we feel Leeds should explore.
What’s the story?
Well, Everton were interested in hiring Bielsa before appointing Sean Dyche.
While the Toffees were in talks with the Argentine, he proposed managing their Under-21 side ahead of taking over the first-team for the 2023/24 campaign, according to The Athletic.
In this instance, while it remains to be seen if Radrizzani would be interested in having Bielsa come back to take charge of the first-team, the Italian should definitely explore the South American’s willingness to work with an Under-21 side.
If Leeds could get El Loco working closely with gems such as Archie Gray, Lewis Bate, Amari Miller, Sean McGurk and others, it would surely do wonders for their development.
Bielsa return to Leeds would enable Skubala promotion
As Leeds struggle to replace Marsch, some have suggested giving the reins to Michael Skubala until the end of the season, after two promising displays against Manchester United during his time as interim boss so far.
The 40-year-old is technically still employed as manager of the Under-21 side at Elland Road, but Bielsa coming back to work with the development side would then free up Skubala to take over the first-team for the remainder of the season.
It would be an unorthodox solution to Marsch’s dismissal, but with time running out, Radrizzani needs to carefully consider all options and make a decision soon.
