Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has explained his decision regarding Rodrigo against Chelsea this afternoon, as quoted in Leeds Live.

The West Yorkshire club played out a goalless draw with Chelsea at Elland Road in the Premier League today.

Rodrigo, who can play as a winger or as a striker, came on as a substitute for the injured Patrick Bamford in the 35th minute.

Bielsa decided to take off the Spain international in the 79th minute, and the Argentine has explained his decision.

The Leeds boss also gave his verdict on the performance of Rodrigo during the time he played against Chelsea

Leeds Live quotes Bielsa as saying: “The period in the first half and second half, while we made efforts superior to those he’s capable of after being out for 40 days. Not only physically, but match fitness.

“I value a lot how he was able to perform around 50 minutes he’s played. Although he’s healthy and physically fit, the work he needs with the ball is still required.”

How did Rodrigo play for Leeds United against Chelsea?

Rodrigo has only just recovered from injury, and one can understand why Bielsa decided to take off him.

The Spaniard was not exactly bad against Chelsea, but he is not the same kind of player that Bamford is.

According to WhoScored, Rodrigo took one shot which was on target, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 76.9%, won one header, took 20 touches, and made one tackle, two interceptions and two clearances.
