Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Marcelo Bielsa has given his view on Sheffield United’s relegation and the departure of Chris Wilder.
It’s no secret that Bielsa is a huge admirer of Wilder, claiming back in 2018 that he’s a coach with new ideas that he’s rarely seen.
Wilder is undoubtedly one of the greatest football minds in the country, and Bielsa feels that it’s a real shame that things went downhill for him at Sheffield United.
“I would like to make a recognition to Sheffield United and a great manager who produced all of that with them and that I regretted that he could not continue his job and that he could not attempt a new story and chapter with this Sheffield United to have got them promoted after dropping back down to the Championship and the description of how unjust football can be in terms of what you deserve,” Bielsa said.
Second-season syndrome hit the Blades hard, and Bielsa will want to avoid that with his Leeds side next season.
Was Sheffield United getting rid of Wilder unjust? Most Blades supporters would probably say that it was, but that’s in the past now.
Whether or not Sheffield United can bounce back after their relegation remains to be seen, but it’s clear to see that Bielsa thinks Wilder should have been given the chance to write a new chapter with the Blades.
