Marcelo Bielsa feels he walked into the ideal conditions at Leeds United

Leeds United are unbeaten in the league under Marcelo Bielsa’s stewardship.

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he walked into Elland Road to the perfect conditions.

Leeds have made a wonderful start to life under Bielsa’s stewardship, and sit at the top of the Championship.

The Argentine has earned a great deal of praise for the transformation that he has orchestrated since taking charge at Leeds.

But Bielsa insists that he was given a preferential set of circumstances to walk into.

He said: “It’s important to say that I came here with ideal conditions. Because we had a long pre-season we could work and take decisions without being in a hurry.

“We also had one month before pre-season to analyse the team. This club had 15 players and a group of youngsters, five or six (who Bielsa wanted to keep). If I had to give an opinion on them I’d say I’d like to keep these players. I wouldn’t want to change the players I have.

“Very few teams can say what I’m saying. I’ve got 15 players that I wouldn’t change and we have five or six young players with possibilities. It indicates that this club has good football health. These are all advantages for me.”

Despite Bielsa’s humble comments, he has unquestionably improved Leeds since taking over.

Struggling players have become key first-team stars, and very few teams have been able to cope with Leeds’ attacking patterns of play.

The Whites won 3-0 against Preston North End at the weekend to further strengthen their grip at the top of the league.

Leeds are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Birmingham City.
