Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has explained to Leeds Live why Kiko Casilla was not in the matchday squad against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

Casilla was not even on the substitutes’ bench at Elland Road, as Leeds got the better of Fulham 4-3 in the Premier League.

Bielsa has said that the Spanish goalkeeper, who is a regular in the team, was injured in midweek and had to be left out against the Cottagers.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper was in action for the Whites in their defeat to Hull City at Elland Road in the EFL Cup.

Casilla played 36 times in the Championship for Leeds last season, while during the second half of the 2018-19 campaign, he played in 19 league games for the Whites, according to WhoScored.

Bielsa has also explained why Pablo Hernandez did not play against Fulham, stating that he was injured in the warm-up, and that it is not a serious problem.

Bielsa told Leeds Live about Casilla: “Yes. He got injured on Wednesday. He played a pass to Alioski, he played it back to him and when he went to clear the ball the opposition came from behind. Went to kick the ball.”

The Leeds boss said about Hernandez: “Pablo had a small knock in the warm-up. We don’t think it’s very serious.”

Bielsa added: “It’s not private, it was a knock to his groin. He wanted to be cautious.”

Good win for Leeds United

While some will be worried about Leeds conceding three goals at home, at the end of the day they got the job done and picked up all three points from the encounter.

The Whites were brilliant going forward and were clinical, but they need to be tighter at the back.
