Leeds United drew 2-2 with Swansea City yesterday.
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa addressed the media in the aftermath of his side’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium last night, and explained why he chose to take Ezgjan Alioski off at half-time, as quoted by Leeds Live.
The Whites have begun their 2018/19 campaign in fine fashion, taking 10 points from their opening four outings, and Bielsa has earned rave reviews for the style of football that he is implementing at Elland Road.
The Argentine has also shown his ruthless streak, however, and proven that he has what it takes to make difficult decisions very early on during games.
His half-time substitution of Alioski was certainly evidence of this.
Bielsa spoke to reporters after his side’s draw with the Swans, and responded when asked why he chose to substitute the Macedonian for Jack Harrison at half-time, as quoted by Leeds Live:
“Because we were not playing deep enough on the left. Our offensive play was better on the right than on the left. So, I thought we need to put some oxygen on this sector.”
Whilst Alioski would have been disappointed at being hooked at half-time, he will know that he quite simply has to improve, if he is to feature regularly for Leeds this season.
