Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has explained to Leeds Live why Barry Douglas has not played as much as he would have liked to.

Bielsa was impressed with the display produced by Douglas during Leeds’s victory over Blackburn Rovers away from home in the Championship at the weekend.

It was the 30-year-old left-back’s only fifth start in the league this season, with the Scotland international having had injury problems and Stuart Dallas doing well in that position.

The Argentine has explained why Douglas has not managed to play much so far this season.

Bielsa told Leeds Live about Douglas: “The position of left-back, he was injured.

“After Dallas was one of the players with more impact in the team, he couldn’t get continuity playing. Maybe this was the reason that he didn’t play as much as he imagined.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, Douglas has made five starts and eight substitute appearances in the Championship for Leeds so far this season, playing a total of 538 minutes.

During the 2018-19 campaign, the left-back made 21 starts and six substitute appearances in the league for the Whites, providing five assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

As reported by Sky Sports, Leeds paid Wolverhampton Wanderers a transfer fee of £3 million to sign Douglas in the summer of 2018.

Meanwhile, Southampton legend and Matt Le Tissier believes that Ben White will be back at Brighton and Hove Albion next season after his loan spell at Leeds ends.

Le Tissier said on Sky Sports News (12:11pm, July 4, 2020): “I certainly think Ben White will be playing for Brighton in the Premier League next season.

“He’s been very impressive. I think they have high hopes for him down there.

“They’re probably a little bit concerned that he’s had such a good season at Leeds that somebody a bit bigger than Brighton might come in and nick him this summer.”
