Izzy Brown was missing from the Leeds United matchday squad that won 3-2 at the weekend.
In comments reported by Leeds Live, Marcelo Bielsa has said that Izzy Brown had a small injury ahead of Leeds’ win over Millwall at the weekend, but confirmed that he was back in contention to return to the squad for Saturday’s trip to Birmingham.
Brown’s absence from the Whites squad that took on Neil Harris’ men at Elland Road was a talking point amongst the fans. His loan spell has not gone to plan so far, and some supporters wondered if Bielsa had left him out for tactical reasons.
Unfortunately it has not clicked for the attacking midfielder at Elland Road, and fans would have been forgiven for wondering if he had fallen further down the pecking order after reading the teamsheet ahead of the dramatic 3-2 victory.
But Bielsa has cleared up any speculation surrounding Brown’s absence by suggesting that he had picked up a knock and is now back to full fitness.
“Brown had a small injury. He has recovered and will be in contention this weekend,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live.
It is looking less and less likely that Brown is going to play a key role in Leeds’ promotion push. He has been available for much of the year, but Bielsa has only brought him off the bench on one occasion. And while it was always going to be difficult for Brown to make an impact when he came on for the final 10 minutes at Queens Park Rangers, his cameo was still underwhelming.
But Brown has shown in the under-23s that he has a moment of class up his sleeve. And with the automatic-promotion race set to be decided by the finest of margins, it may only take one goal for the Chelsea-owned attacker to turn himself into a Leeds legend if it helps get the Whites get back into the Premier League.
