A lot of Leeds United fans want Kalvin Phillips to stay in midfield.
Marcelo Bielsa has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that Adam Forshaw will not play in Leeds United’s visit of Swansea City tomorrow.
Forshaw missed the trip to former club Middlesbrough on Saturday with a knee injury.
The Leeds boss previously said that he would have played the Liverpudlian at Boro ahead of Kalvin Phillips in midfield, with Phillips netting a last-gasp equaliser at the Riverside as United snatched a 1-1 draw.
But Bielsa has confirmed that Forshaw – a £4.5 million signing last January [The Daily Mail] – hasn’t shrugged off his knee problem to make himself available.
He told The Yorkshire Evening Post: “Adam Forshaw won’t play tomorrow. The situation of Adam didn’t evolve as we thought so he won’t be in the group tomorrow.
“We think it’s not that serious but the fact that he missed two games we have to take this reality into account. And we have more days after the game against Swansea so we hope he will be available in about ten days.”
Leeds supporters could be forgiven for being slightly relieved. Not that they rejoice in seeing one of their own injured, but Bielsa’s previous comments indicate that Phillips would have made way had Forshaw been available.
Many fans of the Elland Road club urged their esteemed Argentine coach not to axe Phillips to facilitate the 27-year-old’s return on Monday, but it looks like Bielsa doesn’t have that dilemma now.
Th 23-year-old has surely earned the chance to start in his favoured defensive midfield role in light of his heroics in the North East and, barring a miraculous recovery from Forshaw, he will.
