The Leeds United boss wasn’t chuffed with Pontus Jansson’s comments.
Marcelo Bielsa has suggested that he was disappointed with Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson for comments made about referee Jeremy Simpson.
The Sweden international has been charged by the Football Association for questioning Simpson’s decision to award Brentford a penalty during the 1-1 draw at Elland Road prior to the most recent international break.
Jansson was speaking live on Sky Sports at the time, after Ollie Watkins won a controversial penalty for his side.
According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, the former Torino and Malmo ace is unlikely to receive anything beyond a fine for the comments, but Bielsa told a press conference that he wasn’t happy with his stalwart nonetheless.
“I would have preferred that Pontus didn’t say that,” he told a press conference, via The YEP.
“The referee is a colleague of both teams. His task is very difficult. If we understand the role of the referee, we will help him.
“Our role on the bench allows us more serenity. I think if Pontus had had time to think about it, he wouldn’t have said the same thing. But I understand players when they make effort on the pitch and they think their treatment isn’t fair.”
Jansson, who also cursed during the live broadcast, reinforced his popularity among Leeds fans, due to the passionate comments, but it wasn’t the smartest of decisions in retrospect.
He may not be available for this weekend’s clash with Blackburn, but because his wife is expected to give birth.
