Mateusz Klich has scored just once for Leeds United in the league so far this season.

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that Mateusz Klich hasn’t been as good this season as he was last campaign.

Klich was one of Leeds stars last season, as they reached the play off semi-final.

The Polish midfielder was an attacking threat for Bielsa’s men, and he ended the campaign in double figures for goals.

Klich has only scored once in the league this time around, but Bielsa has stuck by the 29-year-old.

And the Leeds boss insists that he thinks Klich will be back to his best soon, as he is still shaking off some fatigue from last term.

“The last season for him was very hard,” Bielsa said. “He always played for Poland and with us, and he never missed training as he is a very serious player.

“So in this moment of the season, he is arriving to get at his best level. He is not a goal-scorer. He arrives more in the side of the pitch and also in front of the box he has a lot of pressing there.

“But he does not arrive a lot inside the box.

“Last season he had a good shot on himself from outside the box. But I think, day-to-day, he will continue to grow to get to the level he achieved last season.”

If Klich can find the scoring touch again for Leeds it would be a major boost, as they have struggled in front of goal this term.

The Whites have failed to be ruthless, with Patrick Bamford, in particular, struggling to hit the back of the net.

If Leeds’ midfielders could take some of the goalscoring burden off Bamford it may just relieve the pressure building on him, and enable him to get back to his best.

Leeds are next in action against QPR tomorrow, when Klich will be looking to get on the scoresheet for the first time in over a month.
