Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has issued a defence of Ezgjan Alioski and Lewis Baker in Leeds Live.

Alioski and Baker were both taken off at half-time during Leeds’ win over Reading yesterday.

The pair struggled in the first half, as Leeds found it difficult to break down a resilient Royals’ defence.

But Bielsa insists that both Alioski and Baker were not playing badly when they were brought off.

“My intention was to find the right balance on both sides but I don’t think that Alioski or Baker’s performances were bad,” he said.

“I just wanted to put players with different features to see if we could play as deep on the left.”

Bielsa’s comments may protect Alioski and Baker, but he really needs to think about dropping the former now.

Alioski has been in poor form for weeks at Leeds, and there are other options in Bielsa’s squad.

The Argentine boss has previously used Jack Harrison to good impact this season, and it may be time to re-introduce the Manchester City loanee.

Leeds are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Sheffield United on Saturday.
