Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has spoken highly of Adam Forshaw to The Yorkshire Evening Post.

Bielsa has outlined what Forshaw offers to Leeds, and how the 28-year-old former Wigan Athletic and Middlesbrough midfielder is unique.

The Argentine has also mentioned 23-year-old Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo while giving his take on the Englishman.

The Brazil international joined Barcelona from Gremio in the summer of 2018 and has a release clause of €400 million (£346.56m), as stated on the Spanish and European giants’ official website.

Bielsa told The Yorkshire Evening Post about Forshaw: “Forshaw is a player who, when he has played, he is always between the better players of the team. When Forshaw shares the defensive midfield area with Kalvin Phillips, he becomes a defensive midfielder and when he’s further forward, alongside Mateusz Klich, he becomes an attacking midfielder. He possesses a skill-set that enables him to blend into his surroundings and resemble the type of player who inhabits those surroundings.

“He has a feature that is very difficult to get. He defends similar to Kalvin, he attacks similar to Klich. What he does close to Phillips doesn’t impede, it is not a problem for him when he goes close to Klich to attack.

“You are not going to find a lot of players with this kind of characteristic. Yesterday I read something about Arthur [Barcelona midfielder] and it explained how difficult it is to find a player with this profile.

“Always Adam when he plays is one of the players who runs more and not just in total distance, in sprints in high intensity.”

Important player for Leeds United

Forshaw is an important player for Leeds, but the midfielder is on the sidelines at the moment with a hip problem.

With the Whites aiming to finish in the top two of the Championship table this season, the 28-year-old former Everton prospect will be playing a big role.

According to WhoScored, Forshaw has provided one assist in seven Championship appearances for Leeds so far this season, and made 20 starts and 11 substitute appearances in the league for the West Yorkshire outfit during the 2018-19 campaign.

Arthur Melo of FC Barcelona looks on prior to the start the La Liga match between SD Eibar SAD and FC Barcelona at Ipurua Municipal Stadium on October 19, 2019 in Eibar, Spain.
