Speaking to The Yorkshire Evening Post, Marcelo Bielsa has played down the minor disagreement between Leeds United duo Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe on Saturday.

Leeds were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute of their 2-1 win over QPR at Elland Road this past weekend.

Roofe, who was nearest to Toni Leistner when he was adjudged to have handled the ball, instantly took the ball to take the resulting spot-kick, before Hernandez tried to persuade him that he was the best man for the job.

But Roofe, who had opened the scoring, won the discussion and slammed home the penalty – the Whites’ first since October of 2017 – for what proved to be the decisive goal.

But although Bielsa saw the discussion, the Argentine insists that he was happy to see Hernandez – who missed United’s last penalty – try to shoulder the responsibility of taking it.

“I saw them exchanging words,” he told The Yorkshire Evening Post.

“If you take into account the fact that it’s a long time since we last had a penalty, it’s a good thing to see that more than one player wanted to take responsibility.”

Bielsa is right. It was good to see more than one player trying to do the honours and, in truth, several Leeds lads might’ve stepped up to the spot if necessary.

Confidence is sky-high among the Whites players at the moment, with Saturday’s victory representing their fourth in a row.

Consequence of the win, Bielsa’s side are second in the Championship and boast a five-point lead in the automatic promotion spots.
