Jamie Shackleton was in action for Leeds United against Barnsley at the weekend.

Leeds United manager

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that Jamie Shackleton played well overall against Barnsley at the weekend.

Shackleton featured for Leeds in their Championship game against Barnsley away from home at Oakwell on Sunday afternoon.

Bielsa has said that the 19-year-old midfielder was very good in the match, but he felt that teenager did not have a massive impact on the game in the second half.

The Leeds head coach has also stated what he wanted from Wolverhampton Wanderers-owned winger Helder Costa when he brought him on at half time.

Bielsa told Leeds Live when asked about Shackleton’s performance: “Jamie Shackleton was very good. Better in the first half, less impact in the second one. But always with enough.”

The Leeds head coach added about Costa: “Helder always chooses to cross. He chooses to cross looking for a team-mate, but in the first half we had a lot of opportunity for crosses but we didn’t find team-mates in the box.

“Harrison and Bamford played well enough, but Helder and Nketiah they have different characteristics and in a match like that sometimes variety is a good option.”

Encouraging performance

Shackleton got his chance in the Leeds midfield due to the injury suffered by Adam Forshaw, and the teenager did well.

The 19-year-old put Patrick Bamford through on goal after just three minutes and created another chance for the striker later on.

The teenager showed a lot of energy, determination and hunger in the match, and he should be pleased with his display.

Leeds United's Jamie Shackleton strains to reach a pass during the Carabao Cup Second Round match between Leeds United and Stoke City at Elland Road on August 27, 2019 in Leeds, England.
