Leeds United celebrated their 100th birthday on Thursday as a number of legends, both past and present, would have enjoyed them moving into the Championship’s top-two on Saturday.

Marcelo Bielsa has claimed that Kalvin Phillips’ goal for Leeds during the week of their 100th birthday celebrations was ‘an act from God’.

Leeds recorded a deserved 1-0 win over Birmingham City on Saturday, with Phillips scoring the only goal of the game at Elland Road.

On Thursday, Leeds celebrated their 100th birthday, and it was fitting that days later, their boyhood fan and local boy, Phillips was the one who picked up the points for them during their next game.

Well, his Leeds manager Bielsa believes that God played his part in Phillips ensuring that he was the one to write his name in the history books in what was a historic week.

“Sometimes God puts things in the right place,” Bielsa told Leeds Live. “Phillips has continues playing here in the club and now he will stay in the history of the club for this goal. It’s an act from God.”

During the week, and at Elland Road, Leeds legends from the past were present to celebrate the club’s centenary, and their win against the Blues.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if in years to come, Phillips is considered a Leeds legend, if he isn’t already, because he’s certainly a popular figure amongst the fans.

In the summer, he potentially could have left the club for the Premier League, but in the end, the £30 million rated player [The Sun], kept loyal to his club.
