Marcelo Bielsa reportedly agreed a two-year contract at Leeds United when he arrived in the summer.
Marcelo Bielsa has responded after being asked in his pre-match press conference if he could decide to stay at Leeds beyond his current contract, in comments reported by Leeds Live.
Bielsa’s arrival has been an appointment that has really captured the imagination at Elland Road. The Whites have played some of the best football on show in the Championship this term, and will return to the top of the table should they beat Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night.
Whatever happens this term, Bielsa looks set to go down as one of the most popular managers in Leeds’s history, and the supporters will be dreaming that he can stay for as long as possible.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reported when he was appointed that he had joined on a two-year deal which included the option for a further year. And he was asked on Monday whether he could stay beyond the terms of his current contract.
“We draw the conclusion at the end of the season to see if we achieve the goals or not and make a decision then,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live.
It is an interesting response from Bielsa to suggest that he will review his situation at the end of the season if he is indeed on a two-year deal with the Whites.
It does appear to be difficult to imagine the Argentinian sticking around if Leeds fail to get promoted this term. So perhaps his future may well come down to whether the Whites do manage to end their exile from the Premier League.
But knowing Bielsa, it would hardly be a surprise if making his decision is a much more complex process.
