Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands has spoken highly of Davy Klaassen to The Liverpool Echo.

Klaassen has struggled to make an impact at Everton since his move from Ajax in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £23.6 million.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder could manage just three starts and only four substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Toffees this past season.

The Netherlands international has been linked with a move away from Everton in the summer transfer window, with Fanatik reporting that Turkish giants Besiktas have been offered the chance to sign him on loan (click here to read more).

Brands has spoken highly of Klaassen, although the Everton Director of Football has suggested that discussions will take place regarding the Dutchman’s future.

“I can only tell you something about him from when he played in Holland,” Brands told The Liverpool Echo about Klaassen.

“He was a very good player, he was the captain of Ajax, a very clever player, a good goalscorer, but last season there were a lot of players in his position so it was very difficult for him. In the end he didn’t play so much.

“What we will do this week is to take decisions on what player fits in our plans for the next situation. We have to be honest to every player, if they have prospects here or if they haven’t.”

Hint on Davy Klaassen’s future?

It is clear that Brands rates Klaassen, and perhaps the Netherlands international attacking midfielder will be given another chance at Everton.

There is no doubt that the former Ajax star has a lot of quality, and it would be a unfair on the 25-year-old – who earns £70,000 per week as salary according to Spotrac.com – if he is not given at least the first half of next season to show what he is capable of.
