Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to claim a first leg advantage tonight as they take on Ajax in the Champions League semi-finals at their new stadium.

Spurs are without Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, but they will be hoping to use home advantage to claim a first leg victory.

This Ajax side has really stolen the show in the Champions League this season, dumping Real Madrid and Juventus out of the competition whilst playing an exceptional brand of football under Erik ten Hag.

Sadly, this team will most likely break up no matter what happens. Frenkie de Jong has already agreed to join Barcelona, and winger David Neres is also attracting interest.

Neres, 22, has hit 12 goals and 15 assists in 48 appearances, and has starred as a versatile forward with real pace, skill and a dangerous left foot.

The Telegraph recently noted that Everton want to land Neres in a deal which would cost around £35million, with Dutchman Marcel Brands looking back to his homeland for talent.

Tonight now presents Everton with the ideal chance to take another look at Neres, as he will be going up against a quality Premier League team with some proven defenders such as Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose.

Neres has only faced an English team once, and that was against Manchester United in the 2017 Europa League final. Two years on, Neres is a much better player, but having the chance to see Neres against an English side much better than Everton is an opportunity Brands shouldn’t pass up.

Seeing him against some of the Premier League’s best may just give Everton a sign of how good Neres could be over here on a permanent basis, and represents another box to tick before the Toffees splash the cash on the Brazilian.
