It’s Merseyside Derby weekend, but the one Everton player who has made more headlines than anyone else this week is Moise Kean.

The on-loan Italian forward scored in PSG’s emphatic 4-1 win against Barcelona this week, and as you can imagine, the spotlight being on him once again led to speculation about his future at Goodison Park.

Ian Wright believes he won’t be back, and PSG do reportedly want to sign him on a permanent deal, but Everton may want to think twice before sanctioning his exit.

We’ve seen plenty of times that strikers who are scoring out on loan can come back to be real assets at their parent clubs, and Everton should know better than most that losing a player who’s doing that can be a big mistake.

Indeed, Everton were famously beneficiaries of Chelsea’s short-sightedness when the London club allowed the Toffees to sign Romelu Lukaku on a permanent deal after a successful initial loan spell at Goodison Park.

Lukaku of course went on to hit some ridiculous heights at Everton, banging in over 100 Premier League goals during his time in England, before going on to break records set by Ronaldo at Inter Milan.

After scoring 14 goals in 25 games for PSG, Everton should be inclined to give him another chance before sanctioning a sale, and while it will be hard for them to stave off interest from the Ligue 1 giants, he’s still under contract at Everton until 2024, and if he continues to develop at this rate, his value will only go up.

Yes, it didn’t work out for him in the Premier League last season, but the same could be said about Lukaku during his time at Chelsea, with the Belgian playing 15 games for the Blues and failing to score in any of those appearances.

Unless a mind-blowing offer comes in for Kean, Marcel Brands should be planning on keeping hold of the Italian, otherwise, he could end up with a Lukaku-type situation on his hands.
