Marcel Brands will be looking for big signings at Everton this summer.

Everton Sporting Director Marcel Brands looks on during the Premier League match between Everton FC and Leicester City at Goodison Park on January 1, 2019 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Everton director of football Marcel Brands has told the Liverpool Echo that he has his targets in place for the summer transfer window having been planning since September 1st.

The Toffees lured Brands over from PSV Eindhoven last summer, securing him as a replacement for Steve Walsh following some poor work in the transfer market.

Brands had built a strong reputation in the Netherlands, and he has already earned praise from Everton fans after an impressive window last summer.

Brands signed three Barcelona players in Yerry Mina, Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes, whilst also adding Joao Virginia, Kurt Zouma, Bernard and Richarlison.

Everton did no business in the January transfer window, and after a hit-and-miss debut season under Marco Silva, the Toffees will hope for strong recruitment again this summer.

Brands will have money to work with thanks to Farhad Moshiri, and having hinted that he is only looking for players under the age of 25, he has discussed other aspects of his planning.

The Dutchman has admitted that he has been working on this summer’s window since September 1st last year, claiming he had no plans to enter the January market at all.

Brands added that his targets are all ready to go, with great progress already made as the positions and names are ‘ready’, meaning Everton may make early moves this summer thanks to Brands.

“After the summer window, we had a new scouting department, but from September 1 we began work for next season,” said Brands. “The first few months we were focusing on all positions but towards the end of the year – November, December – we decided on the positions for 19-20. We didn’t do anything in the winter window because there was no big need for that and I don’t like to bring players in during the winter window because there is no pre-season, the games go on and on and it is difficult for the players to adapt.”

“We didn’t do anything but prepared more for the summer. Now, on April 2, the players are already decided. We’ve done a lot of work on that and let’s see what is possible and what we can do but the positions and names are ready,” he added.
