According to Marca, Real Madrid believe that the time of Gareth Bale, now on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, at the club is over.

Bale joined Tottenham on loan from Madrid in the summer of 2020 and is scheduled to return to the Spanish and European giants at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old winger’s current contract at the defending Spanish champions runs until the summer of 2022.

Marca has reported this afternoon (1:28pm UK time) that Madrid believe that Bale’s time at the club is over.

The report in the Spanish publication has claimed that Madrid plan to let go of Bale, meaning that they could save close to €30 million (£25.72 million) in salary.

Boost for Tottenham Hotspur?

If Madrid plan to let Bale simply leave at the end of the season, then it is a massive boost to Tottenham, if they want to keep the winger next season.

However, one suspects that Bale will have to take a pay-cut if he is make his loan deal permanent at Tottenham.

It also remains to be seen if Madrid are willing to simply release Bale and give him a pay-off or demand a transfer fee.

It will also be interesting to see if Bale accepts a pay-off or if he will demand his annual salary be paid in full.
